Setting up Microsoft Outlook Express to read and send your email.

Note: These instructions were developed using Microsoft Outlook Express 6. Other version of Microsoft Outlook Express will work but some of the screens will look a little different, but the content and functionality are the same.

Checking what Outlook Express version you are using.
  1. Click on Help
  2. Click on "About Microsoft Outlook Express"

Checking the version of Outlook express you are running
  • Check to see what version you are running and click "Ok"

Create the email account
  1. Click on tools
  2. Click on Accounts

  1. Click on "Mail" tab
  2. Click on "Add"
  3. Finally on "Mail"

Setting up personal information.
  1. Type in the name you want people to see when the email you send arrives to the recipients
  2. Click on "Next" to continue

Setting up email address
  1. Type in your email address. Example: joe@mydomain.com
  2. Click on "Next" to continue

Setting up the POP3 account information
  1. Select POP3 for the incoming mail server.
  2. Type in mail.YOUR-DOMAIN-NAME for the incoming mail (POP3) server. Example: mail.moorei.com
  3. Type in mail.YOUR-DOMAIN-NAME for the outgoing mail (SMTP) server. Example: mail.moorei.com
  4. Click "Next" to continue

Setting up the account information
  1. MOST IMPORTANT The Account name must be the full email address. Example: joe@mydomain.com not just joe. *****
  2. Type in you password
  3. YOu may want to Check "Remember password" so Outlook does not keep asking for the password.
  4. Click "Next" to continue

Almost done, but there is more.
  1. Click on "Finish" but you are not finished yet.

Setting up SMTP (outgoing) authentication
  1. Click on mail.YOUR-DOMAIN (You must return to set up screen).
  2. Then click on "Properties"

  1. Look over the values in the fields to make sure all looks good.
  2. Click on "Servers" tab

Setting"My server requires authentication"
  1. Check "My server requires authentication"
  2. Click on "Settings"

Outgoing Mail Server
  1. Check "Use same setting as my incoming mail server"
  2. Press "Ok" twice and then "Close" and you are done.
